Find out what sleeves flatter your arms with our expert tips

Dec 8, 2022 · Body Shape

Summer brings us glorious warm weather. At Science of Style, we love creating seasonal wardrobes – starting with the basic foundations and adding signature pieces that suit the weather and lifestyle choices.

When the weather heats up, some of us loathe the thought of exposing our arms! Going sleeveless can make us feel self-conscious about the appearance of our upper arms. Does this sound familiar? Everyone’s bodies are different – and that’s completely fine! But if you’re looking for styles that flatter a fuller arm, here are some tips.

Choosing the right style of short sleeves

You might be inclined to go straight to short sleeves as a blanket solution to bare arms. However, not all short sleeves flatter a fuller upper arm.

  • Avoid rounded capped sleeves – the shape does not create a flattering line
  • Go for diagonal cut sleeves – the straight line elongates downwards and inwards (view our Sublime tee range here)

Opt for length in sleeves

We know what you’re going to say: summer is no time for long sleeves! But a little more material can add length to your arm that off-sets any fullness, plus protects from the sun.

  • Try ¾ length sleeves – these are always flattering and still breathy (view our flourish top range)
  • Try a sheer long sleeved top – thin translucent fabrics will soften the outline of your arm without making you hot

Patterns and ruffles are your friend

If you’re looking to disguise something, it’s all about distracting the eyes!

  • Sleeves with ruffles, lace, or fringing move the eye from the arm inward to the shoulder
  • Prints and patterns keep the eye moving and lead the viewer up to your smiling face

Style your way to an enjoyable summer
