Your guide to making smart purchases at sale times.

Nov 24, 2022 · Uncategorised

The retail landscape is forever dominated by sales, with many fashion retailers turning over a significant portion of their stock at discount prices. So how can we stay in control during this time, avoid succumbing to temptation, and ending up with "buyer's remorse"?

Here are a few points below to assist you in making smarter choices at sale time.

  1. Make a list of the gaps in your wardrobe, write them down on your phone or on a notepad, and carry the list with you when you go shopping. Choose a piece that meets your lifestyle and complements the rest of your wardrobe.
  2. Use your “style recipe” (which is provided to exclusive clients) and refer to it before purchasing a garment.
  3. Ask yourself do you love the garment or do you love the price reduction? Would you buy it if it was not on sale?
  4. Is the garment easy to wash and wear?
  5. What is the return policy on the sale item (most retailers adjust their return policies on sale items to no returns or issue credit notes upon return of a sale item)
  6. Note that if the item you purchase on sale is faulty or was represented to you incorrectly, you have the right to a full refund even when on sale.
  7. If a garment is incorrectly reduced, the retailer is not legally obliged to sell it to you at that price. However, many retailers will honour the price error as company policy for the sake of good public relations.

Be aware that many of us experience an adrenaline rush during the purchasing process; in fact, it is the purchase and not the garment that we find exciting. If you need help controlling your urges to shop, identify the gaps in your wardrobe and find your personal “Style Recipe”. Perhaps you should consider the services of an accredited Image Consultant such as Alison from Science of Style.
